NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State scored four runs in the third to come back and beat Wichita State 8-6 and take the three-game series.
Alec Bohm went 2-for-5 with two RBI, while
Travis Young went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Starter
Codi Heuer went two innings and gave up five earned runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Chase Rader was hit by a pitch to lead off the second inning and he stole second. With two outs,
Taylor Sanagorski walked and Rader scored on
Trey Vickers' double down the left field line.
Travis Young followed with a single to centerfield to score Sanagorski and Vickers to give the Shocks an early 3-0 lead.
The Redbirds answered in the bottom of the second. With two outs and nobody on, Blake Molitor singled and Brian Rodemoyer walked and both advanced on a passed ball. Daniel Dwyer's two-run single scored both and cut the Shocker lead to 3-2.
ISU chased starter
Codi Heuer with four runs in the third. The first four batters of the inning reached and Jared Hendren's sacrifice fly gave the Redbirds a 4-3 lead. Rodemoyer's double drove in two more to increase the ISU lead to 6-3.
Owen Miller's two-run home run in the sixth gave the Redbirds an 8-3 lead.
Mikel Mucha's RBI single and
Alec Bohm's two-run single cut the lead to 8-6 in the eighth.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., May 17 against Kansas at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
