Box Score (PDF)CARBONDALE, Ill. – Cody Tyler threw a complete game shutout to lead Wichita State to an 8-0 win over Southern Illinois in game one of the series.
Tyler allowed just four hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Chase Rader went 3-for-4 with a RBI for the Shockers, while
Dayton Dugas went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
The Shockers got on the board in the top of the fifth.
Alec Bohm led off the inning with a double and with one out pinch runner
Travis Young moved to third on a single from
Josh DeBacker. Young scored on
Trey Vickers' single to right field to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead.
With one out in the sixth,
Greyson Jenista doubled to right-center. He moved to third on a single by
Gunnar Troutwine and scored on a single from
Chase Rader to increase the lead to 2-0.
WSU broke the game open with a big eighth inning. Jenista led off with a walk and Troutwine followed with a single. Rader sacrificed them both over and Jenista scored on
Ryan Tinkham's fielder's choice for a 3-0 lead.
Dayton Dugas singled to drive in Troutwine and a walk to
Josh DeBacker loaded the bases. Vickers drove in his second run of the game with a single and two more scored on a Saluki error for a 7-0 lead.
The Shockers scored a run in the ninth on a RBI single from Dugas for the final 8-0 score.
The Shockers and Salukis play game two of the series on Sat., April 30 at 4 p.m.
