Box Score (PDF)CARBONDALE, Ill. – Ryan Smith hit a walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the 10th to give Southern Illinois an 8-5 win over Wichita State in game two of a three-game series.
Luke Ritter went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a home run to lead the Shockers.
Freshman
Codi Heuer kept the Shockers in the game pitching six shutout innings with no walks and three strikeouts.
The Salukis wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Connor Kopach walked to lead off the bottom of the first and moved to third on Dyllin Mucha's single. Both scored on Logan Blackfan's double to give SIU a 2-0 lead.
The Shockers cut into the lead in the second. With one out,
Alec Bohm hit his second home run of the season to pull WSU within 2-1.
SIU responded with three more runs in the bottom of the second to chase starter
Zach Lewis.
Luke Ritter's second home run of the season cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the third.
Chase Rader doubled to lead off the fourth and moved to third on a fly out from Bohm and scored on a ground out from
Dayton Dugas to pull the Shocks closer at 5-3.
Ritter walked to lead off the eighth and moved to third on a single by
Greyson Jenista. Ritter scored on a double play to make the score 5-4.
The Shockers tied it in the bottom of the ninth. With two outs,
Ryan Tinkham singled and
Trey Vickers and
Mikel Mucha followed with walks to load the bases. An infield single from Ritter tied the score at five.
Smith hit the three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10
th.
The Shockers and Salukis wrap up the series on Sun., May 1 at 1 p.m.
