Box Score (PDF)LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas used five extra-base hits to defeat Wichita State 9-3 on Tuesday night at Hoglund Ballpark.
Trey Vickers went 4-for-4 to lead the Shockers, while
Ryan Tinkham went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Starter
Connor Lungwitz took the loss. He went two innings and gave up three runs on five hits with no walks and one strikeout.
The Jayhawks jumped on the board in the bottom of the second. With one out, Colby Wright singled and stole second. With two outs, Joven Afenir doubled home Wright to put KU up 1-0. TJ Martin followed with a double to score Afenir and Owen Taylor singled to score Martin for a 3-0 Jayhawk lead.
KU used a two-run home run from Michael Tinsley to increase the lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the third.
The Shockers cut into the lead in the top of the fourth. With one out,
Ryan Tinkham and
Dayton Dugas both singled. Tinkham scored on
Trey Vickers' single to cut the lead to 5-1.
WSU added two more in the fifth on a two-run single from Tinkham to make the score 5-3.
A two-run home run from Martin put KU up 7-3 in the sixth and a RBI single from Devin Foyle increased the lead to 8-3 in the seventh. KU added an unearned run in the eighth for the final 9-3 score.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., April 22 when they host Bradley at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
