Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State baseball team defeated No. 15 Missouri State 11-1 in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader to win its three-game set against the Bears.
Zach Lewis picked up his first win of the season, throwing 6.1 innings, while only allowing one run on three hits and striking out five.
Dayton Dugas went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI.
Luke Ritter and
Alec Bohm each went 2-for-3, as five Shockers had a multi-hit game.
The Shockers jumped on the board early with five runs in the home-half of the first inning. After Ritter and
Greyson Jenista singled,
Gunnar Troutwine hit the third base-hit in a row for Wichita State to plate Ritter. Then, after Bohm drew a walk,
Tanner Kirk hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Jenista. The Shockers then plated three runs on back-to-back-to-back wild pitches from the Bears to put the score at 5-0 after one.
Dugas plated another run for Wichita State in the bottom of the third inning when his single to left field scored
Josh DeBacker to make the score 6-0 Shockers.
The freshman tabbed two more RBI in the bottom of the fifth, when his single to center field plated Troutwine, who had walked to lead off the inning, and Bohm who had reached with a single of his own. The Shockers had an 8-0 advantage after five complete innings.
After a single and a walk by
Mikel Mucha and Ritter to lead off the home half of the sixth, Jenista's single to right plated Mucha. Two batters later, Bohm grounded into a double play to score that scored Ritter and pushed the Wichita State lead to 10-0.
Missouri State got on the board with one run in the top of the seventh to put the Shocker lead at 10-1.
Mucha's single through the right side in the bottom of the seventh scored Dugas, giving Wichita State the victory, 11-1.
The Shockers will take on Kansas on Tuesday, April 19 in Lawrence. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
