WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State used a five-run fifth inning to defeat No. 15 Missouri State 9-2 on Friday evening.

Cody Tyler earned his first win of the season, pitching a complete game with five strikeouts.

Dayton Dugas led all Shockers, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Mikel Mucha went 2-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.

MSU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the fourth with Jeremy Eierman driving in Spencer Johnson, who reached on a triple to left field. Gunnar Troutwine's timely throw to third to pick off Eierman saved a possible additional run in the inning.

The Shockers responded with a big fifth inning, starting with back-to-back singles from Troutwine and Luke Ritter. Tinkham doubled through the left side to bring in Troutwine, and Dugas followed with a double of his own that brought in Ritter and Tinkham. Dugas scored on a single from Trey Vickers, and a walk to Chase Rader loaded the bases with one out. Greyson Jenista grounded out, but allowed another run to score to put the Shockers up 5-1.

The Bears added a single run in the sixth inning with a solo home run from Eierman to cut the lead 5-2.

WSU added three runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth when Dugas doubled down the left-field line and allowed Ritter, who reached on a single, to score. A hard hit single by Mucha brought in two more runs and increased the lead 8-2.

In the eighth, Vickers reached on a single to center field and Mucha tripled down the right-field line to drive in another run for the final score of 9-2.

The Shockers will finish the three-game series with the Bears in a doubleheader tomorrow Sat., April 16, starting at 1:00 pm at Eck Stadium.
