Box Score (PDF)STILLWATER, Okla. – Despite out-hitting the Cowgirls, 8-5, the Wichita State softball team fell to Oklahoma State 4-3 on Wednesday night.
Wichita State was led offensively by
Cacy Williams who had two hits in three at-bats and also drove in one of the Shockers three runs. In the circle,
Jenni Brooks threw 1.2 innings and gave up all four runs and received the loss, moving her record to 5-2.
Following one and a half scoreless innings, the Cowgirls loaded the bases with no outs. After recording one out on a lineout to centerfield, Oklahoma State's Randee O'Donnell hit a grand slam to give the Cowgirls an early 4-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, the Shockers scratched across a run, after
Paige Luellen reached on a walk and was later drove in on a single by
Cacy Williams.
With the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning,
Mackenzie Wright grounded into a fielder's choice that scored one run and cut the Oklahoma State lead to 4-2.
In the top of the sixth inning, with
Ashley Johnson on first base,
Brittany Fortner drove a double into the left-center gap just under the diving glove of the centerfielder to drive in one run and cut the lead to 4-3, heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
With a runner on second in the top of the seventh, the Cowgirls gave up a two-out walk but a
Cassidy Kelsheimer strikeout ended the game, giving Oklahoma State a 4-3 victory.
Wichita State is now 9-8 overall and will be in action again on Sat., March 12 as the Shockers take on Northern Colorado in the first home series of the season at 12:00 p.m.
