Cal Poly Wins Finale, 7-6

WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State dropped the final game of the three-game series with Cal Poly 7-6.
 
The Shockers were led by Zach Reding who went 2-for-4 with a double, Luke Ritter who was 2-for-4 with one RBI, and Greyson Jenista finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and a solo home run.
 
With two outs in the first, Brett Barbier walked and John Schuknecht singled to get two runners on base. A single from Michael Sanderson brought in a run to put Cal Poly up early 1-0.
 
In the second inning, a well-placed single through the right side allowed one run to score, extending the Mustangs lead 2-0.
 
Cal Poly added one more run in the third, after a single by Ben Polshuk drove in Barbier who reached on a walk. Polshuk was caught stealing second by Ritter to end the inning.
 
The Shockers got on the board in the fourth when Jenista hit a solo home run to cut the lead 3-1.
 
Sanderson doubled to lead off the top of the fifth for Cal Poly. Cooper Moore hit a single just over the head of third-baseman Alec Bohm to drive in Sanderson and put the Mustangs up 4-1.
 
WSU answered with two runs of their own in the fifth. Reding hit a double to center field, and Ritter singled through the right side to bring Reding in to score. Bohm followed with a double of his own to left field and Travis Young flied out to right center, driving in Ritter and closing the gap 4-3.  
 
In the sixth, Schuknecht hit a double to the left field wall to bring in two runners. Sanderson hit a sacrifice fly to center to add another run and put Cal Poly up 7-3.
 
Strong hitting in the seventh brought the Shockers within two runs. Ritter singled through right center and Bohm doubled to left to advance Ritter to third. Mikel Mucha's hit to right field brought in Ritter and a bases loaded walk to Jenista allowed Bohm to score, cutting the lead to 7-5.
 
WSU attempted a ninth inning comeback, starting with a single by Bohm and Fehr coming in as the pinch runner. A hard-hit double by Mucha drove in Fehr for the final score of 7-6.
 
The Shockers are next in action to begin a two game series against Stephen F. Austin on Tues., March 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
