WICHITA, Kan. – The Shockers fell to Cal Poly 7-2 in the second game of the three-game series on Friday night.

The Shockers had nine hits, and Tanner Kirk and Greyson Jenista both went 2-for-4 to lead the Shocker offense. Zach Lewis took the loss after pitching 0.2 innings and allowing three runs.

Cal Poly scored early in the first inning off a double by John Schuknecht that brought in Brett Barbier, who reached on a walk. Back-to-back singles drove in two more runs and put the Mustangs up 3-0.

Lead-off hitter Mikel Mucha started the bottom of the first inning with a barely fair double down the right field line. Tanner Kirk singled to left field, and Ryan Tinkham hit a fielder's choice to bring Mucha in to score. Three consecutive left field singles drove in another run and put the Shockers on the board 3-2.

Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth. With two runners in scoring position, a sacrifice fly allowed the first run of the inning for Cal Poly. A single by Schuknecht brought in another run and extended their lead 5-2.

A walk with the bases loaded in the ninth and a wild pitch added a pair of Cal Poly runs for a final score of 7-2.

The Shockers and Mustangs play the final game of the series on Sat, March 26 at 11 a.m.
