Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – Willie Schwanke pitched eight shutout innings and led Wichita State to a 6-0 victory over Cal Poly.
Ryan Tinkham went 3-for-5 with one RBI and a double, and
Greyson Jenista went 2-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Shocker offense.
The Shockers jumped on the board in the third inning. Michael Mucha led off the inning with a single, followed by
Tanner Kirk who reached first after being hit by a pitch and Tinkham who singled to left field. A fielder's choice by
Gunnar Troutwine drove in the first two runs. Jenista grounded out to first, but allowed another run to score to put WSU up 3-0.
In the seventh, Troutwine doubled to right center with two outs and scored on a single through the right side from Jenista to increase the Shockers lead 4-0.
A lead off single from
Chase Rader started the eighth inning.
Travis Young walked and and both runners advanced off a sacrifice bunt from
Trey Vickers. Mucha reached first on a fielder's choice and allowed one run to score. Tinkham hit a line drive double to left and drove in another run for the final score 6-0.
The Shockers and Mustangs play game two of the series on Fri., March 25 at 6:30 p.m.
