WICHITA, Kan. – No. 67 Wichita State looks to get back on track this weekend with a pair of road matches in Colorado, beginning at No. 52 Denver on Friday at 6 p.m. CT and finishing at the Air Force Academy on Saturday at Noon.
Last Time OutThe Shockers lost a pair of tough matches in Tulsa over the weekend to Purdue and No. 23 Tulsa. WSU and Purdue faced off on Saturday in a neutral site match that saw Wichita State get out to a 3-0 lead in the match before the Boilermakers stormed back to win the final four singles matches to win, 4-3. WSU started the match vs. Tulsa much of the same way by winning the doubles point and singles matches at Nos. 1 and 2, but the Golden Hurricane made a late charge to clinch the final singles matches to win, 4-3.
Wichita State NotablesThe Shockers dropped four spots in this week's Oracle/ITA rankings to No. 67. Herzan and Inoue represent Wichita State in the ITA doubles rankings at No. 34. The duo is 13-3 on the season and has three wins over doubles team ranked in the top 30.
About No. 52 DenverThe Pioneers come into the weekend with a 3-2 record having wins over South Carolina (4-3), Nebraska (5-2) and Nebraska Omaha (7-0) and losses to Ohio State (4-0) and Oregon (4-3). Denver is represented in the ITA singles rankings with Diogo Rocha at No. 45. In doubles, Henry Craig and Alex Gasson sit just outside the top 10 at No. 11 in the ITA doubles rankings.
About Air ForceAir Force sports a 1-3 record with its lone win vs. Southern Utah (7-0) in November. The Falcons lost to UC Irvine (6-0), Abilene Christian (5-2) and UC Davis (5-2).
