Box Score (PDF)ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Wichita State ended the game with six unanswered runs, but it was not enough as New Mexico won game three of the series 8-6.
Alec Bohm went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double, while
Tanner Kirk went 2-for-4 with two doubles.
Shocker starter
Chase Williams went 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout.
The Lobos used another big inning to jump in front of the Shockers in the final game of the series. Jack Zoellner led off the second with a home run and Jared Holley's RBI single, two bases loaded walks and Zoellner's two-run single gave UNM an early 6-0 lead.
UNM added two more in the fifth off four-straight singles to increase the lead to 8-0.
The Shockers answered in the top of the sixth. With one out,
Tanner Kirk and
Luke Ritter hit back-to-back doubles and
Ryan Tinkham was hit by a pitch.
Gunnar Troutwine's single brought home Ritter and
Greyson Jenista's infield single scored Tinkham to cut the lead to 8-3.
WSU added two more in the seventh.
Josh DeBacker led off with a walk and with one out Kirk walked. Ritter's single loaded the bases and Tinkham followed with a walk to make the score 8-4.
Alec Bohm's RBI single cut the lead to 8-5.
Kirk doubled to lead off the ninth and scored on Bohm's two-out double for the final 8-6 score.
The Shockers are next in action on Tue., March 1 against Omaha at 3 p.m. at Eck Stadium.
