Box Score (PDF)ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico scored six runs in the fifth inning on the way to an 8-4 win over Wichita State in game two of a three-game series.
Ryan Tinkham went 3-for-4 with two doubles, while
Gunnar Troutwine went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
Starter
Willie Schwanke went four innings and gave up six runs on seven hits with two walks.
Schwanke threw four shutout innings, but the Lobos got to him in the fifth. The first seven batters in the inning reached base to chase Schwanke. UNM used six hits and three walks to score six runs in the inning and take a 6-0 lead.
The Lobos added to the lead in the sixth after scoring a run on a balk and another on a sacrifice fly for an 8-0 lead.
The Shockers got on the board in the top of the seventh.
Zach Reding singled with one out and
Gunnar Troutwine followed with a home run to cut the lead to 8-2.
Chase Rader led off the ninth with a single and Troutwine was hit by a pitch.
Luke Ritter followed with a single to load the bases and a fielder's choice by
Keenan Eaton drove in Rader and a Lobo error brought Troutwine home to make the final score 8-4.
The Shockers and Lobos wrap up the series on Sun., Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. Central time.
