WICHITA, Kan. – Gregg Marshall changed up the marquee Tuesday night, but the chorus continues to steal the show.

Wichita State got a combined 61 points from its reserves in a comfortable 87-57 victory over Division II Southern Nazarene at Charles Koch Arena.

Juniors Rauno Nurger and Daishon Smith made their first career starts, but displaced starters Shaquille Morris (15 points) and Zach Brown (13) finished atop the scoring list for WSU (6-2).

The pair hit 11-of-15 from the field, as WSU continued its early-season trend of big performances from its non-starters. The Shockers entered the week ranked second nationally in bench scoring (48.5).

Reserves Markis McDuffie and Darral Willis Jr. chipped in 11-each, with Willis finishing a rebound shy of his first double-double performance.

Landry Shamet paced the starters with 11 points of his own – all in the first half.

The Shockers also set a season-high for points in the paint, outscoring SNU 46-8.

Southern Nazarene's Deshon Portley registered a game-high 16 points on 6-of-14 shooting and Jhonathan Dunn added 11. SNU (2-4 against D-II competition) treated the game as an exhibition.

WSU stormed out of the gate on a 14-2 run behind a pair of three pointers from Shamet and multiple scores inside from Rashard Kelly. The lead grew to 32-11 with under eight minutes left in the half.

The Shockers scored the final six points of the half to take a 50-24 lead into the break, helped by 57 percent shooting and a 25-12 rebounding edge. It was the fourth time in just eight games that they've led by 25-or-more at halftime.

Brown scored eight of his 13 points in the second half, during which the teams mostly traded baskets. The Shocker lead hit the 30-mark near the midway point of the period and ballooned to 34 with 3:29 to play in the game.

WSU is now 5-0 at home with wins coming by 46, 37, 27, 35 and 30, however the team's 45-game Charles Koch Arena sellout string came to an end, Tuesday, with an announced crowd of 10,436. The ticket office reported 70 unsold general admission seats.

WSU also improved 7-0 in regular season games against non-Division I opponents in the Marshall Era, and all have come by at least 21 points.
