Shockers Defeat INST, 3-0 on Senior Night

WICHITA, Kan. – Celebrating senior night for Katy Dudzinski, Jody Larson and Dani Mostrom, the Wichita State volleyball team sealed its 14th straight 20-win season, defeating Indiana State 3-0 on Saturday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-9.
 
Tabitha Brown led the Shocker attack with 17 kills. Larson added 12 kills and 13 digs, while Emily Hiebert had 39 assists. Dani Mostrom had 25 digs.
 
Wichita State connected on four-straight points early in the first set to force the Sycamores to take a timeout. Back-to-back kills from Brown put the Shocker lead at 8-2. Hiebert's kill made the score 10-6 in favor of the Shockers, but Indiana State eventually cut the lead to 14-13, forcing a Wichita State timeout. With the set tied at 15, the Shockers used another rally, this time three points, to take 18-15 advantage as Indiana State took its second timeout of the set. A block by Brown and Dudzinski forced set point and a kill by Brown sealed the set for Wichita State, 25-20.
 
The Shockers controlled the second set from the start, opening with a 6-1 run capped by a kill from Brown. A block by Lehman and Hiebert pushed the lead to 10-3, forcing the Sycamores to take a timeout. The visitors took another timeout after a kill from Hiebert, the sixth-straight point by the Shockers, saw the lead balloon to 14-3. Later, a block by Mikaela Raudsepp and Dudzinski put Wichita State ahead, 20-10, and a kill by Larson won the set, 25-14.
 
Lehman's kill early in the third set put the Shocker advantage at 4-1, and later, Brown's kill stretched the lead to 8-3. Alex Koon put down a kill and then served an ace to push the lead to 12-4 and force an Indiana State. Hiebert connected on a service ace of her own to make the score 15-5. Raudsepp's kill won the set 25-9.
 
The Shockers are next in-action on Friday, Nov. 18 when they head to Carbondale, Ill. to take on Southern Illinois. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
