WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team swept Loyola 3-0 on Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-15, 27-25 and 25-20.
Jody Larson led the attack with 12 kills and also led the team in digs with 12.
Abbie Lehman added 10 kills, hitting .500, while
Emily Hiebert contributed 37 assists.
Back-to-back kills by
Mikaela Raudsepp and
Tabitha Brown early in the first set gave the Shockers a 5-2 lead. The Ramblers then fought back to tie the set at six before a Loyola error and Brown ace gave the home team the lead again, 8-6. Wichita State began to pull away and a block by Brown put the Shocker lead at 14-10, forcing Loyola to take a timeout. Later, Lehman's kill stretched the lead to 17-11. A kill by Larson made it 21-13 Wichita State and the Shockers went on to win the first set 25-15.

Katy Dudzinski put the Shockers ahead 6-5 as the two teams began to trade points. Later, Raudsepp scored a point on a kill to tie the set at 13, and Larson grabbed a kill of her own to make it three-straight points for the Shockers, forcing Loyola to take a timeout down 15-13. Wichita State took its first timeout, as the Ramblers fought to tie the set at 21. Larson's kill out of the timeout put the Shockers ahead 22-21 before a Loyola attack went long to give the home team a 25-24 advantage as the visitors from Chicago took a timeout. A block by Raudsepp and Dudzinski won the set for the Shockers, 27-25.
The teams traded points to begin set and a Rambler service error gave the Shockers their first two-point lead of the set, 13-11. Loyola then scored two points of their own to tie the set at 13, before a Hiebert kill gave Wichita State the lead again, 14-13. The Shockers did not surrender the lead the rest of the set and went on to win, 25-20.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 8 when they host Bradley at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
