WICHITA, Kan. – Jody Larson had 13 kills to lead the Wichita State volleyball team past Bradley 3-0 on Saturday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers won by scores of 25-12, 25-14 and 25-22.
Larson hit .462 and also added 10 digs to her line. Setter
Emily Hiebert contributed 27 assists in the match.
Wichita State scored four-straight points early in the first set to take a 5-1 lead. Later in the set,
Abbie Lehman's kill forced a Bradley timeout, before
Tabitha Brown put down an ace to put the Shocker lead at 12-4.
Alex Koon connected on an ace of her own to make the score 15-6, forcing the Braves to take another timeout.
Mikaela Raudsepp's back-to-back kills put Wichita State ahead 22-8 and Hiebert's kill won the first set for the Shockers, 25-12.
Hiebert scored the first point of the second set with an ace, as the Shockers took control from the beginning. Wichita State opened up an 11-5 advantage to force Bradley to take a timeout, before a block by Lehman and Hiebert made the score 12-5. Later, Hiebert served an ace to make the score 16-8 Shockers and force the Braves to take their second timeout of the set. A block by Lehman and Larson helped fuel a Shocker run that saw the home team push its lead to 20-8. Wichita State went on to win the set, 25-14.
The Shockers fell behind 8-5 early in the third set before back-to-back points cut the deficit to one. A block by Larson and Lehman tied the set at nine and Hiebert's ace gave Wichita State the lead, 10-9. Koon's ace and a kill by Larson put the Shocker lead at 13-10 and forced Bradley to take a timeout. Bradley would not go away however, as an ace by the visitors tied the set at 14. Later, Lehman's kill pushed the Wichita State lead to 20-18 and the Shockers went on to win, 25-22.
The Shockers are next in action on Mon., Oct. 10 when they host Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
