Shockers Fall to Panthers, 3-0

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State volleyball team fell to Northern Iowa 3-0 on Friday night inside Charles Koch Arena. The Shockers lost by scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 27-25.
 
Jody Larson had 10 kills, while Tabitha Brown and Katy Dudzinski added eight and seven kills, respectively. Emily Hiebert had 24 assists and Dani Mostrom had 17 digs.
 
The Wichita State offense was rolling, as the Shockers jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Abbie Lehman's kill made it 5-2 and a block by Lehman and Alex Koon a couple points later put the Wichita State lead at 7-2, forcing Northern Iowa to take a timeout. Later, Northern Iowa went on a run, eventually cutting the Shocker lead to 11-10, forcing the home team to take a timeout. Wichita State was forced to take another timeout when the Panthers used another barrage of points to take and 18-15 lead. Lehman's kill and an error by Northern Iowa tied the set at 22, but the Panthers used a 4-2 run to win the set, 26-24.
 
Northern Iowa jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Shockers went on a 3-0 run started by a kill from Jody Larson to tie the set at five. The Panthers would go up again by as many as three, before another three-point run, capped by a block from Larson, Koon and Lehman tied the set at 12. Northern Iowa answer with a 3-0 run of its own to take a 15-12 advantage into the media timeout. The Panthers never trailed the rest of the set and took the set, 25-18.
 
A block by Hiebert and Dudzinski gave Wichita State an 8-5 lead, forcing the Panthers to take a timeout early in the third set. The Shockers used two kills by Larson to connect on three-straight points to go up 14-8, as UNI took another timeout. Lehman's block made the score 20-13, but the Panthers would not go away. The visitors scored the next five points and closed the set on a 14-5 run to win the set 27-25 and clinch the match.
 
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Oct. 29 when they host Drake at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
