NORMAL, Ill. – Wichita State improved to 8-1 in Missouri Valley Conference play with a 3-0 win at Illinois State. The Shockers won by scores of 25-19, 26-24 and 25-23.
Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with 17 kills and 10 digs, while
Emily Hiebert had 37 assists and 11 digs and
Jody Larson had eight kills and 20 digs.
Behind the serving of
Tabitha Brown, the Shockers raced out to a 7-2 lead in the first set. The Redbirds went on a 6-1 run to cut the lead to 10-9, but kills from
Katy Dudzinski and
Mikaela Raudsepp put the Shockers up 14-11. ISU used four-straight kills to take a 15-14 lead, but WSU responded with a 3-0 run to go back in front 17-15. A Raudsepp kill increased the lead to 22-16 and the Shockers won the set 25-19 on a kill from Dudzinski.
The Redbirds took a quick 5-1 lead in the second set and increased the lead to 15-10 with a kill from Jaelyn Keene. ISU used a service ace to go in front 23-14, but the Shockers responded in a huge way. Behind the serving of
Dani Mostrom, the Shockers went on a 9-0 run to tie the score at 23. The Redbirds reached set point at 24-23, but the Shockers answered with three-straight kills, two from Lehman and one from Larson, to win the set 26-24.
The third set went back and forth until the Redbirds grabbed a 9-6 lead. The Shockers tied it at 11 on a service ace from
Kara Bown and the two teams traded points until a Raudsepp kill gave WSU a 20-18 lead. The Redbirds used two-straight kills to tie it at 21, but three-straight kills from Brown gave the Shockers the 25-23 win.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 21 when they host Missouri State at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
