TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Wichita State defeated Indiana State for the 30
th-straight time by a score of 3-1. The Shockers won by scores of 25-13, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-18.
Mikaela Raudsepp led the Shockers with 16 kills, while
Jody Larson had 14 kills and 17 digs and
Tabitha Brown had 11 kills and 13 digs.
Emily Hiebert had eight kills and 45 assists.
The Shockers raced out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and used a service ace from
Kara Bown to go in front 13-6. Kills from
Jody Larson and
Mikaela Raudsepp increased the lead to 20-11 and WSU went on to win the set 25-13.
The Sycamores took an early 8-5 lead in the second set, but the Shockers came back to tie it at eight with two kills from Larson and one from Raudsepp. The two teams traded points until the Shockers used a 4-0 run to go in front 13-11. The Sycamores responded by scoring seven of the next eight points to take an 18-14 lead. INS increased the lead to 20-16, but WSU answered with a 6-0 run to take a 22-20 lead. The Shockers held on to win the set 25-23.
The third set went back and forth until the Sycamores used a 4-0 run to take an 11-8 lead. The Shockers used a 4-0 run to take a 14-12 lead and WSU increased the lead to 20-17 after a Sycamore hitting error. INS responded with three-straight points to tie it at 20 and the Sycamores reached set point at 24-22 with a block. INS won the set 25-23.
WSU grabbed a quick 10-4 lead in the fourth set, but the Sycamores closed it to 13-11 after a 3-0 run. A Dudzinski kill and a Larson service ace put the Shockers up 16-12 and a Lehman kill increased the lead to 22-16. WSU won the set 25-18 on a kill from Raudsepp.
The Shockers are next in action on Sun., Oct. 16 at Illinois State at 1 p.m.
