Press ConferenceWICHITA, Kan. – After dropping the first set, the Wichita State volleyball team defeated Illinois State, 3-1 in their second conference matchup of the season at Koch Arena by scores of, 25-27, 25-23, 25-23, and 25-22.
Senior
Katie Reilly led the Shockers with 17 kills and eight block assists. Sophomore
Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with a hitting percentage of .458 while
Dani Mostrom added a team high 20 digs.
The first set began with both teams trading points until a block by Reilly and Katie Dudzinski gave the Shockers a 10-7 lead. Two kills and a service ace by Illinois State tied the game at 11. For the rest of the set, both teams went back and forth until a kill by Illinois State gave the Redbirds a 27-25 victory.
The Shockers jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the second set, but back-to-back kills by Illinois state made the score 12-9. A kill by
Mikaela Raudsepp, gave the Shockers a one-point lead, 16-15, but a Redbird kill quickly tied the score at 16. A kill by Dudzinski pushed the Shocker lead to 20-17. Both teams traded points until a kill by Illinois State brought the Shocker lead down to one, at 22-21. A kill by the Redbirds gave them the lead at 23-22, but a kill by Lehman quickly tied the score at 23. Service ace by Senior

Emily Hiebert gave the Shockers a 25-23 win in set two.
A kill by Illinois State gave the Redbirds an early 5-3 lead in the third set, but a block by Raudsepp and Lehman gave the Shockers a 7-6 lead. Another block by Reilly and
Shimen Fayad pushed the Shocker lead to 13-11. Back-to-back kills by Illinois State gave the Redbirds a 20-17 lead. A kill by Reilly tied the set at 22. Another kill by Reilly gives the Shockers a 25-23 win.
The Redbirds got out to an early 3-0 lead in the fourth set, but a Lehman kill tied the game at 3. A block by the Redbirds gave them a 13-10 lead. After a Raudsepp kill, the Shockers tie the score at 15. The Shockers take an 18-15 lead on a block by Reilly and Lehman. A kill by Raudsepp gave the Shockers a 25-22 win in set four, taking the match, 3-1.
WSU improves to 11-5 (2-0) on the year. The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Oct. 2 when they host Missouri State at 7 p.m. inside Charles Koch Arena.
