| Photo GalleryWICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State hit .384 on the way to a 3-0 win over South Dakota State to open the Shocker Volleyball Classic. The Shockers won by scores of 25-9, 25-9 and 25-22.
Abbie Lehman led the Shockers with 11 kills and hit .647, while
Emily Hiebert had 33 assists and 10 digs and
Shimen Fayad had 19 digs and four service aces.
The Shockers jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead in the first set behind the serving of
Katie Reilly. Two-straight service aces from
Shimen Fayad increased the lead to 22-8 and WSU closed out the set 25-9 on a kill from
Abbie Lehman.
Fayad's serving gave WSU a 6-1 lead in the second set and a Lehman kill made it 17-5.
Natalie Brisso's first career kill gave WSU a 22-7 lead and
Katy Dudzinski's kill ended the set 25-9.
The Jackrabbits grabbed the early lead in the third set. A Kacey Herrmann service ace gave SDSU a 5-2 lead. A kill by Ashley Beaner increased the lead to 14-10 before the Shockers pulled to within 20-18 on a kill by Fayad. The Shockers took control of the set behind the serving of Hiebert. WSU used a 6-0 run to go in front 23-20 and won the set 25-22 on a kill by Lehman.
The Shockers are next in action tonight at 7:30 p.m. against Northern Illinois.
