Al Littleton (Golf, 1947-50, Golf Coach, 1973-82, 1989-95)

Al Littleton enrolled at the University of Wichita in 1946 after serving in the Navy during World War II and captained the golf team for four seasons. During his career he won two Wichita Match Play championships, two Kansas Amateur titles and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the National Public Links Golf Championship. He was named All-Missouri Valley Conference each season, placing fourth in the league championship in 1947 and third in 1948 and 1949. He participated in the 1949 NCAA Golf Championship, qualifying for the 64-man match-play field and winning his first match. The winningest coach in Shocker golf history, he guided the men¹s team to three Missouri Valley Conference championships and four NCAA Championship appearances from 1973-82 while producing All-Americans Gary Navarro, Don Lee and Rod Nuckolls. Noted for his excellence in golf instruction, he was honored as Teacher of the Year in the PGA South Central Section in 1988 and 1989. Inducted, 1990.
