WICHITA, Kan. – Mikel Mucha's walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth gave Wichita State a 4-3 win over Evansville in game one of a three-game series.
Reliever
John Hayes earned the win to improve to 5-1. He pitched 2.1 shutout innings, while starter
Isaac Anderson pitched 6.2 innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits.
Keenan Eaton went 2-for-2 for the Shockers, while
Gunnar Troutwine and Mucha each drove in a run.
The Aces used a two-out rally to score a run in the third. Kevin Kaczmarski singled with two outs and scored on a triple to centerfield from Jonathan Ramon to go in front 1-0.
The Shockers tied the game in the bottom of the third.
Keenan Eaton singled with one out and
Trey Vickers followed with a single down the right field line. The Aces had Vickers between first and second, but Eaton broke home and the Aces were unable to throw him out and the Shocks tied the score at one.
WSU took the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Sam Hilliard singled up the middle with one out and moved to third on
Ryan Tinkham's double to left field. Hilliard scored on a groundout from
Gunnar Troutwine and Tinkham scored on an Evansville error to put WSU up 3-1.
The Aces answered in the top of the seventh. Shain Showers singled with one out and Jarod Perry singled with two outs to put runners on the corners. Kaczmarski doubled down the right field line to score both to tie the game at three.
