PEORIA, Ill.—Wichita State's softball team fell to Bradley by a score of 4-2 in the series finale on Sunday afternoon inside the Laura Bradley Park in Peoria. With the loss, Wichita State is 28-21 (10-10 MVC) as Bradley is now 15-30 (9-11 MVC).

Jenni Brooks took her 10th loss of the season. She pitched five innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out none.

Aly Spinas-Valainis pitched a complete game, as she threw all seven innings while allowing two earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out four.

Mackenzie Wright was 1-3 with two RBI to lead the Shocker offense. Kelli Spring, Cacy Williams, Brittany Fortner, Macklin Hitz and Melanie Jaegers also recorded a hit for the Shockers as Spring and Williams each stole a base.

Shannon King was 2-3 with a RBI that paced the Braves.

Wichita State started the game by scoring two runs on four hits to take a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the first.

The Shockers led off the game with two straight singles by Kelli Spring and Cacy Williams. During the Wright at-bat, Williams stole second as Spring stole third to set up runners at second and third with one out. Moments later, Wright hit a two-RBI single and advanced to second on a fielding error in right field, scoring both Williams and Spring to go up 2-0.

Wichita State had runners on second (Wright) and third (Macklin Hitz) for the second time in the inning with one out and Liz Broyles at the plate. Broyles popped out to second for the second out, and Melanie Jaegers struck out to keep the game at 2-0 Shockers after the top-half of the first.

A throwing error by Jaegers attempting to catch Kelly Kapp stealing second reflected off of Broyles' glove and into right field, allowing Kapp to advance to third. Seconds later, Kapp was thrown out at home by Spring as Elizabeth Leonard reached first base on a fielder's choice. Spring's putout kept Bradley off the scoreboard as Wichita State had a 2-0 lead after one.

Through four innings, a pitcher's duel broke out for the second straight game in the WSU/Bradley series. The Shockers only had two runs on five hits and committed two errors as Bradley had one hit and two errors of their own.

Brooks allowed her first hit with two outs in the bottom of the fourth when King singled to third and advanced to second on a throwing error by Wright. The Shockers were still up 2-0 heading into the top of the fifth after Brooks forced a groundout to third.

The Braves scored three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead through five innings.

Bradley strung two doubles together from their first three batters in the bottom of the fifth, including one by Maria Schroeder and one by Brittany Burgess. The double by Burgess scored Schroeder to push a run across while cutting the Shocker lead in half at 2-1. A cue-shot RBI-groundout by Kathryn Spenn tied the game at two all, and an Erika Hansen single up the middle gave the Braves a 3-2 lead.

Bradley added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth after a Spring fielding error allowed Schroeder to reach first and Shannon King to score, increasing the Shocker deficit to 4-2 after six innings.

Williams walked with two outs in the top of the seventh, allowing Fortner to be the tying run. A diving catch by Burgess took away a hit by Fortner, and ended the game to give the Braves a 4-2 win during the series finale.

Wichita State's next game is on Wednesday when they face Missouri State in Springfield, Mo. at 5 p.m.
