EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Wichita State clinched the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season out-right Thursday night with a 77-63 win at Evansville.
The Shockers have won the last two MVC titles, the first in WSU history, but now also own the 2014-15 title by two games with only one regular-season game remaining on Valley schedules.
Michael Dapprich had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead WSU, while Jamillah Bonner led all scoring with 19 points.
Alex Harden had 15 points and needs only 30 to become the all-time leading scorer at WSU, while
Alie Decker also had double-figures with 11 points.
WSU shot 52.7 percent (29-55) to out-shoot Evansville, which made 42 percent of its shots (21-50).
The Shockers out-scored UE, 41-38, in the second half and held a 39-22 halftime lead.
The two teams traded baskets with the Shockers extending the lead to as much as 21 two times in the first four minutes of the second half.
A Brittney Martin jumper at 15:34 gave WSU its largest lead at 22 points. The Shockers kept a steady 19-21-point lead over the next four minutes. A Chapel three-pointer with the shot clock running down pushed the lead back up to 22 points at the 9:34 mark.
WSU cut the lead to 13 with 3:57 left, but that is the closest the Aces would get as the Shockers pushed the lead back to 18 with 2:43 left. WSU
To open the game, the Shockers took a 7-4 lead into the first media timeout at 15:39 in the first half. Back-to-back baskets by Dapprich gave WSU a 11-6 lead, the second bucket at 13:48.
Another basket by Dapprich made it 13-6 at the 13:13 mark, and Bonner added two more points before Dapprich struck again, this time with a three-pointer at 11:53 that gave WSU an 18-6 lead at 11:56.
WSU went up 17, 33-16 with a set play for Decker, who delivered with a three-pointer at 4:53.
The Shockers doubled-up the Aces with a traditional three-point play by Harden at 1:17, 36-18. Ladd hit UE's first basket in 3:30 at 1:02, but Decker responded with her third three-pointer of the half to give WSU a 39-20 lead, its largest of the half, with 53 seconds left in the half.
Taylor next made a driving layup with four second left for a 39-22 halftime score.
WSU was led in scoring by Dapprich with 11 points, while Decker had 10. Two Aces, Ladd and Dickey, had seven points each.
In the first half, WSU out-shot the Aces, 51.9 percent (14-27) to 37.5 percent (9-24) and out-boarded the home team, 16-13.
Wichita State is next in action 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon at Indiana State in the final regular-season game before the MVC Tournament, March 12-15 in St. Charles, Mo.
