WBB: Shockers Take 62-54 Win at ISU Saturday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  --  Wichita State (26-4, 17-1) defeated Indiana State, 62-54, Saturday to set a school record for wins in a conference season with 17 and tie the school record with 26 wins.

Alex Harden led WSU with 17 points, including 13 in the second half in foul trouble. Kelsey Jacobs had 16 points, Michaela Dapprich had 14 points and Alie Decker had 11, al in the second half, for the Shockers. With the 17 points, Harden needs just 13 points to tie Allison Daniel as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,368 points.

ISU (17-12, 7-11) was led in scoring by Jasmine Grier's 18 points and Joyea Marshall's 13 points. 

WSU , down 32-28 at the half, out-scored ISU, 34-22 in the second half, and out-shot the Sycamores, 47.1 percent to 36.8 percent.

Early in the second half Harden picked up her fourth foul at 16:52, and ISU went up by eight 42-34, at 14:25.

WSU out-scored the Sycamores 9-6 over the next three minutes, the last bucket at 11:30 when Decker hit a three-pointer to make the score 44-43.

Decker's three-pointer at 10:18 gave the Shockers two point lead, 46-44, and Harden's jumper after a Sycamore turnover put WSU up 48-44 and extended WSU's run to 12-0.

The Shockers extended the lead to 57-50 by the 3:50 mark as Harden took over to score nine-straight for WSU in the run.

A Decker free throw made it 58-50 at the 2:25 mark, and WSU held off the late ISU charge for the win.

In the first half, Indiana State took a 10-6 lead at 13:34 on a Ceazer basket, just seconds after WSU's Harden picked up her third foul of the first half.  The Sycamores extended the lead to 15-10 at 11:23 on a Marshall and-one. 

ISU went up 20-14 for its largest lead so far with a Grier three-pointer, but came charging back with three baskets by Dapprich.

Bonner tied it up at 22 each at 4:20 before WSU went on a 10-2 run to take a four-point lead 28-24 at 2:28. 

Eight-straight points by ISU to close the half gave the Sycamores a 32-28 lead at the half.

WSU out-shot the Sycamores, 52 percent (13-25) to 42.9 percent (12-28) but Indiana State made three treys, including two by Grier, and converted on five free throws to WSU's two.

In the first half, Grier led all scorers with 15 points for ISU, while Dapprich was WSU's leader with 12 points.

Wichita State is next in action 12:07 p.m., Fri., March 13 in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Charles, Mo. The Shockers will play the winner of the No. 8 seed Bradley- No. 9- seed Loyola play-in game Thursday night.
