WICHITA, Kan. -- Wichita State out-distanced Missouri State in the second half and won, 69-50, to improve to 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference Sunday afternoon inside Charles Koch Arena.
Jamillah Bonner scored a game-high 18 points on 50 percent shooting (6-for-12), leading four double-figure Shocker scorers. Alex Harden had 16 points, Alie Decker 15 points and Michaela Dapprich had 14 points to back Bonner.
Missouri State's Tyonna Snow had 15 points as the only double-figure scorer for the Lady Bears.
MSU has 21 turnovers to the Shockers 14 and WSU out-boarded the Lady Bears, 34-31, while WSU out-shot the Lady Bears, 43.4 percent to 41.2 percent..
To open the second half, WSU gave up a bucket to lose the lead, but then out-scored the Bears 9-5 to take a 38-33 lead by 15:39.
MSU went on an 8-0 run to take a 41-38 lead by the 11:49 mark before a Decker three pointer in
front of the WSU bench tied the game at 41 each at 11:40.
The Shockers held a steady lead for five minutes before Bonner stole the ball and drove for a layup at the 5:42 mark to put WSU up by six, 51-45.
The Shockers extended the lead to 10, 55-45, as part of an 8-0 WSU run. Bonner made two free throws out of the timeout at 3:45 to make WSU's lead 12, 57-45.
Bonner scored again, this time on a driving jumper at 2:33 to extend the lead to 14, 59-45.
The Shockers out-scored MSU, 10-4, in the next two and a half minutes for a 67-50 win.
The two teams battled to an 11-11 tie at the 13:28 mark before MSU went ahead, 14-11, with a three-pointer by Hughes at the 12:05 mark.
A Dapprich layup and a Decker jumper put WSU back ahead 15-14, the latter bucket at 10:31.
The Bears answered with a 7-0 run to go up 21-15 at the 6:54 mark on Williams' trey. Swartz made another bucket to put MSU up 8, 23-15.
Dapprich stopped the Bear run with a layup at 5:42 to cut the lead to six, 23-17.
WSU cut it to three, 24-21, on a Harden jumper and two free throws by Jacobs, but the Bears answered with a basket by Chvatal, 26-21.
The Shockers cut the lead to one twice in the final 1:31 before Decker's two free throws with :09.1 seconds left gave WSU the lead for the first time since the 15:26 mark.
MSU's final drive came up short as WSU took a 29-28 lead into halftime.
WSU out-shot the Bears, 44 percent (11-25) to 42.9 percent (12-28) for the half, but MSU lead on the boards, 18-15.
Harden had eight points for WSU at the half, while Snow had eight to lead MSU.
Wichita State is next in action Friday and Sunday at home against Loyola and Bradley, respectively.
