Box Score WACO, Texas—Wichita State's softball team split their doubleheader on Friday, losing to No. 10/11 Baylor, 7-4, during the opening day of the Getterman Classic in Waco. The Shockers dropped to 1-1 on the season as the Bears moved to 1-0.
The Shockers scored their four runs on seven hits while committing two errors. No. 10/11 Baylor's seven runs came from nine hits, and they committed one error of their own.

Kelsey Sterneker (0-1) took the loss in relief of Jenni Brooks. Sterneker gave up three runs (all earned), three hits, two walks, and struck out two in 3.1 innings pitched. Brooks pitched 2.2 innings, gave up six hits, four runs (two earned), and had four walks.
Heather Steams (1-0) pitched a complete game for the Bears. She pitched all seven innings while allowing seven hits, four runs (three earned), and had seven strikeouts.
Brittany Fortner led the Shocker attack, as she did in the first game of the day against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Fortner went 2-3 with a RBI triple, and a run scored. Cacy Williams and Mackenzie Wright had the two other Shocker RBI in the loss against No. 10/11 Baylor.
Linsey Hays led the Bears on offense when she went 3-4 with a three-run homer, three RBI and a run scored.
The Bears took an early 1-0 lead over the Shockers when Christy Lisenby hit a solo home run to left center during the bottom of the second inning.
Moments later, with the bases loaded, No. 10/11 Baylor added two more when Liz Broyles committed a fielding error at second. This scored Kaitlyn Thumann from third and Ari Hawkins from second, widening their lead to 3-0 over the Shockers after two innings.
The Shockers then exploded for four runs on four hits in the top of the third to take a 4-3 lead.
To begin the rally, Williams doubled, scoring Ashley Johnson from second. A wild pitch from Stearns allowed Kelli Spring to score from third, trimming the Shocker deficit to 3-2. Fortner's RBI triple tied the game at three apiece.
Mackenzie Wright pushed the Shockers ahead, giving them a 4-3 lead after knocking in Fortner with a RBI single that was barely hit over the head of Bears first baseman Sarah Beth Toben.
Landrith tied the game at four apiece in the bottom of the third with a RBI single up the middle, scoring Lisenby.
In the bottom of the fourth, Hays hit a three-run homer off the right field foul pole in that provided No. 10/11 Baylor with their second lead of the game at 7-4. This proved to be the game winning home run, as the score remained the same for the rest of the game.
The Shockers will play in their second doubleheader in as many days at the Getterman Classic when they take on Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 10 a.m. Bracket play begins for Wichita State after their game against Stephen F. Austin. The opponent in their second game on Saturday will be determined from each of the participating teams' head-to-head records after the third game.
