PEORIA, Ill. -- Wichita State defeated Bradley, 61-45, Friday night inside Renaissance Coliseum on Bradley's campus to improve to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
WSU's Jamillah Bonner had 15 points to lead the Shockers, while Kelsey Jacobs had 12 points and Alex Harden had 10.
Bradley came out of halftime down three, 28-25, and closed WSU's lead to one two times, but WSU pulled away and led by 19, 53-34, at 6:24 after Harden's basket in the lane and ensuing free throw after the foul. Bonner put in nine points during the 15-3 run that put the game away.
Bradley closed the game with an 11-8 scoring advantage, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Shockers' two 21-point leads in the last five minutes. WSU never trailed in the game.
WSU shot 36 percent (18-50) to BU's 27.3 percent (15-55) in a turnover-plagued game as Bradley
had 24 turnovers and WSU had 21. The Braves led on the glass, 41-39.
The Shockers made 4-of-9 three-pointers and 21-of-28 free throws, while BU was 3-of21 and 12-16, respectively.
The Shockers built a seven-point lead early in the first half after a Jacobs layup, but Bradley proceeded to out-score WSU, 7-2, over the next three minutes to close the gap to two, 17-15.
WSU pushed the lead back to eight, 23-15, with four baskets, the last on a jumper by Jaleesa Chapel at 4:45.
Bradley closed the gap again, outscoring WSU 10-5 over the final 4:45, but the Shockers took a 28-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Jacobs led WSU in scoring at the half with 10 points while Young led Bradley with 11 points. The Shockers out-shot BU, 34.6 percent (9-26) to 28 percent (7-25).
Wichita State is next in action 2 p.m., Sunday at Loyola.
