WICHITA, Kan. – No. 72 Wichita State won both of their matches in a Sunday doubleheader against McPherson and Northwest Missouri State inside the Rock Road Genesis Health Club in Wichita. The Shockers defeated McPherson 5-0 and later defeated Northwest Missouri State (No. 16 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Division-II National Rankings) 4-0.
With their two wins on Sunday, the Shockers moved to 14-7 on the year while the Bulldogs fell to 5-5 and the Bearcats dropped to 8-2.Both of Sunday's matches only involved singles play.
McPherson
Guillermo de Vilchez took down Mark Mahan 6-0, 6-0 to give the Shockers a 1-0 dual-match advantage at No. 4 singles.at No. 5 singles, Jocelyn Devilliers extended the Shocker lead to 2-0 when he defeated Allen Darmawan 6-0, 6-1.
Ibian Hodgson and Tomislav Gregurovic pushed the lead from 2-0 to 4-0 in favor of the Shockers. Hodgson earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jaime Roman at No. 6 singles and Gregurovic won 6-2, 6-2 over Joan-Marc Fajula at No. 2 singles.
Guillermo Nicol closed the match for No. 72 Wichita State after beating Sean De Young 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Northwest Missouri State
Tin Ostojic (No. 20 in the ITA's Central Singles Rankings) began the match by winning 6-1, 6-2 against Romain Boissinot at No. 2 singles. Gregurovic then earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alvaro Riveros at No. 3 singles.
The Shockers finished the dual-match with wins from de Vilchez and Cuic. At No. 4 singes, de Vilchez won 6-2, 6-2 and Cuic defeated Sergio de Vilchez (No. 20 in the ITA's Division-II National Singles Rankings) 6-0, 6-4 at No 1 singles.
No. 72 Wichita State begins Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday when they face Illinois State inside the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex at WSU's campus in Wichita at 11 a.m.
