WICHITA, Kan. – No. 65 Wichita State took down Cowley 7-0 Wednesday at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Center on the WSU campus in Wichita. The Shockers now move to 5-5 on the year while Cowley drops to 0-2. No. 65 Wichita State swept both the doubles and singles portion during Wednesday's action.
Tomislav Gregurovic/Tin Ostojic of No. 65 Wichita State defeated Harry Busby/Erik Eldagsen of Cowley 8-2 to begin the doubles portion. Guillermo Nicol/Guillermo de Vilchez won 8-1 against the Cowley team of Joshua Coleman/Ryan Hoverson to complete the sweep and earn the doubles point for the Shockers. No. 65 Wichita State took the 1-0 advantage into singles play.
Jocelyn Devilliers gave Wichita State a 2-0 lead when he earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Hoverson to begin singles play. Ibian Hodgson won 6-1, 6-1 against Carlos Rodriguez to extend the Shocker lead to 3-0. Nicol pushed the Shocker lead to 4-0 when he beat Seth Moore 6-0, 6-4.
de Vilchez won his singles match 6-1, 6-4 against Joshua Coleman, and Gregurovic took care of Eldagsen 6-4, 6-2. Both wins helped extend No. 65 Wichita State's lead from 4-0 to 6-0 over the Tigers. Ostojic ended the dual-match with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-3 victory against Busby in what was the only match of the day to go to a ten point third-set match tiebreaker.
The next time the Shockers play will be Saturday in a doubleheader against Oral Roberts at noon and Washburn at 4 p.m. Both of Saturday's matches will take place at the West Central Genesis Health Club in Wichita.
