WBB: Shockers Fall, 86-58, at Eastern Washington

CHENEY, Wash. --  Wichita State could not overcome an early deficit and 48 percent shooting by Eastern Washington as the Shockers dropped to 1-1 with a 86-58 loss Tuesday evening in their first road test of the season.

"The team that showed up against Creighton last game wasn't the team that showed up today," said head coach Jody Adams. "You have to give Eastern Washington credit, they were very well prepared. Their two best players showed up and played well and ours did not. When you let a team score 40 points in a half in our system it is going be tough to win.

"We are going to get back to the drawing board and learn from this. It is still early in the season."

Junior Michaela Dapprich led the Shockers in scoring with 21 points, one short of her career-high, while Alex Harden backed her with 14. Dapprich picked up a double-double with 10 rebounds, a career-high.

Hayley Hodgins led EWU with 30 points, while Lexie Nelson followed with 29 as the Eagles shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the field.

The Shockers were held to 33.3 percent (23-69) from the field for the game, up from the 23.5 percent (8-34) they shot in the first half. In addition, EWU made almost twice as many free throws as the Shockers shot, going 20-of-21 from the line, while the Shockers were 6-of-11 form the line.

The 23.5 percent contributed to the 25-point deficit (43-18) at halftime.
