OREM, Utah – Wichita State earned its first win of the season with a sweep over North Dakota State. The Shockers won by scores of 25-22, 25-16 and 25-18.
Elizabeth Field led the Shockers with nine kills and hit .643, while Chelsey Feekin had 33 assists, seven digs and two kills. Katie Reilly had a team-high 11 digs and Ashley Andrade had eight blocks.
A service ace from Katie Reilly gave the Shocks an early 4-1 lead in the first set. The Shockers stretched the lead to 17-11 after a service ace by Gaby Urban, but NDSU stormed back with an 8-1 run to take a 19-18 lead. Back-to-back kills from Elizabeth Field put the Shocks back in front 20-19 and two-straight WSU blocks increased the lead to 23-20. WSU won the set 25-22 on a Bison service error.
The second set went back-and-forth until kills from Field and Sam Sanders and a block from Reilly, Sanders and Field put WSU in front 10-6. The Bison used a block to pull within 11-10, but the Shockers used a 6-0 run to take an 18-11 lead. The Shockers finished off the set 25-16 with a service ace from Ashlyn Driskill.
Three kills from Ashley Andrade gave the Shocks an early 4-2 lead in the third set and WSU increased the lead to 16-10 after a Bison hitting error. A service ace from Dani Mostrom gave WSU a 20-13 lead and the Shocks won the set 25-18 on a NDSU hitting error.
The Shockers are next in action on Sat., Aug. 31 against Arizona State at 11 a.m.
