BSB: Bayliff Named Valley Scholar-Athlete of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Garrett Bayliff of Wichita State has been selected Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today. Bayliff was honored for his performance during the period of May 13-19.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

Garrett Bayliff led the Shockers to a 3-1 week and went 11-for-15 (.733) with four RBI, a walk and three stolen bases. He had multiple-hits in all four games. Against No. 16 Oklahoma State, he went 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. In game one against Northwestern, he went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a stolen base. The four hits was a career-high for him.

In game two against the Wildcats, he went 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt and in game three, he went 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Bayliff was hitting a team-best .381 going into the MVC Tournament. He holds a 3.33 grade-point average as an exercise science major.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

Redshirt freshmen and first-year junior college transfers are not eligible. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
