WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State defeated Oklahoma Baptist 73-29, Sat., evening in Charles Koch Arena in its first exhibition game of the 2013-14 season.
Kadeem Coleby led Wichita State with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, Cleanthony Early added 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds in the victory.
The Shockers raced out to a 10-1 lead in the first half, holding the Bison to just one point until a layup at the 10:53 mark. That would be Oklahoma Baptist's only field goal of the first half, as Wichita State held the Bison to 1-of-18 shooting from the field and 6-of-14 from the line.
The Shockers closed the half on a 14-4 run, sparked by back-to-back dunks from Coleby at the 6:54 mark, to give Wichita State a 31-8 advantage. Fred VanVleet led the Shockers in the half with seven points on 3-for-3 shooting.
Wichita State outscored the Bison 36-17 in the second half, holding Oklahoma Baptist to 25 percent from the floor and 10 percent from behind the arc.
The Shockers are next in action when they host Emporia State Sat., Nov. 9 with the tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
