TULSA, Okla.- The Wichita State women's tennis team fell to
No. 23 Tulsa, 6-1, on Thursday night at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
The Shockers fell behind early in the match when the Golden
Hurricane took two doubles matches. The eighth ranked doubles team in the
nation, Samantha Vickers and Isaura Enrique of Tulsa, defeated Lucia Kovalova
and Veronika Blaskova, 8-2, and Renata Kuricova and Belen Rivera defeated
Montse Blasco Fernandez and Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul, 8-4, to put Tulsa up 1-0.
Wichita State would then lose five out of six singles
contests to drop the match. Junior Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul got the only win of
the evening for the Shocker women, taking down Maria Sant'Anna, 7-6, 2-6, 10-8.
"Tulsa just played a great and very complete all-around
match in doubles and singles," head coach Colin Foster said. "I was very proud
of the way we competed, and even though Yok was the only one to come away with
a win, everyone competed hard."
The Shockers are next in action on Sunday, February 3 for a
match against Denver at Wichita Country Club. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
