Box Score OMAHA, Neb. - Wichita State dropped its first Missouri
Valley Conference match of the season in four sets to Creighton. The Bluejays won by scores of 25-19, 21-25,
25-18 and 25-23.
Emily Adney led the Shockers with 14 kills, while Sam
Sanders had 11 kills. Chelsey Feekin had
11 kills, 34 assists, eight digs and five blocks and Jackie Church had 25 digs.
A kill by Sam Sanders gave WSU a 7-6 lead in the first set
and a service ace by Jackie Church increased the lead to 9-7. The Bluejays tied it at 11 with a block and
took a 15-12 lead after a Shocker hitting error. The Shockers pulled to within 22-19 after a
CU hitting error, but the Bluejays scored the final three points for a 25-19
win.
CU went in front 7-3 in the second set before the Shockers
pulled to within 8-7 on a kill by Emily Adney.
Three-straight service aces from Kelsey Banwart gave the Shocks an 11-9
lead, but the Bluejays answered with three-straight to take a 12-11 lead. Two kills by Chelsey Feekin and a service ace
by Adney gave WSU a 14-12 advantage, but the Bluejays came back to take a 20-19
lead after a block. A 4-0 Shocker run
put WSU back in front 23-20 and WSU ended the set with kills from Adney and
Feekin for the 25-21 win.
The Shockers took a 7-3 lead in the third set after
back-to-back kills from Ashley Andrade, but the Bluejays responded with a 7-0
run to take a 10-7 lead. WSU came back
to tie it at 16, but CU scored nine of the final 11 points in the 25-18 win.
The fourth set went back-and-forth until the Shockers used a
3-0 run to take a 16-13 lead. CU tied it
at 17 with a block and then took a 21-19 lead after back-to-back Shocker
hitting errors. The Bluejays reached
match point at 24-21, but a kill by Adney and a block by Feekin pulled WSU to
within 24-23. CU used a kill to win
25-23.
The Shockers are next in action on Fri., Sept. 21 when they
host Evansville at 7 p.m.
