OMAHA, Neb.- The Shocker women's tennis team won their first
match of the 2012 MVC Tournament against Bradley, 4-0, on Friday morning.
The Shockers took an early lead by capturing the doubles
point from the Braves. Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Venticinque defeated Sarah
Rodefeld and Meredith McDonagh, 8-2, and Lucia Kovalova and Delia Damaschin
took down Corey Mattson and Carly Miles, 8-1.
In singles, Wichita State would only need three matches to
put away Bradley. First, Delia Damaschin defeated Elizabe Przystawski, 6-0, 6-0,
and No. 82 Lutfiana Budiharto defeated Sarah Rodefeld, 6-0, 6-0. Then, to
clinch the match for the Shockers, Veronika Blaskova defeated Corey Mattson, 6-1,
6-1.
The win moved the Shockers into the semifinals where they
will take on Southern Illinois on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Shockers defeated the
Salukis during the conference season, 7-0.
