NORMAN, Okla. - Wichita State lost two games Friday in
Norman, Okla. failing to register a run in losses to Indiana, 11-0, and ESPN/USA
No. 8 Oklahoma, 13-0.
In game one of Friday's action Wichita State fell victim to
a pair of big innings fat the hands of Big-10 Conference member Indiana, losing
11-0 in five innings. Wichita State met their downfall with a four-run Indiana
first inning and seven-run fourth.
The Shockers narrowly avoided the big first inning but a
two-out flare to short right field tipped off the diving, outstretched glove of
Shocker right fielder Brittney Osborn. From there the Hoosiers pounded out a
trio of RBI singles with the final one coming from left fielder Shannon Cawley
driving in two Indiana base runners.
The seven run Indiana fourth inning was especially troubling
with five of the seven runs being unearned. Heather Nelson's three-run bases
clearing triple to left center was the highlight of the inning for the
Hoosiers.
Osborn paced the Shockers offensively going 2-for-2 with a
double to left centerfield.
Two home runs each from Sooner All-American's Jessica Shults
and Keilani Ricketts keyed the offensive onslaught for Oklahoma in Friday's
second game that included five total home runs in the Sooners 13-0 five-inning
victory.
Michelle Gascoigne picked up the victory in the circle for ESPN/USA
No. 8 Oklahoma pitching four shutout innings, striking out seven Shocker
batters.
Wichita State will play two more games in Norman, Okla.
Saturday beginning with an 11 a.m. rematch with Indiana, followed by a 1:00 p.m
game against Oklahoma.
