NORMAN, Okla. - Despite a much-improved performance from Friday, the Shocker softball team lost two games Saturday to Indiana, 6-3, and Oklahoma, 5-0.
An early deficit cost the Shockers against Indiana as the Hoosiers scored three runs in the opening frame of Saturdays opening game loss.
Wichita State did answer back in the bottom of the first with a pair of RBI singles from Melanie Jaegers and Hayley Temple to cut the Hoosier lead to 3-2. Following Wichita State's charge in the first, the Big-10 Hoosiers added two runs in the top-of-the second to extend their lead to 5-2 and then again to 6-2 in the third inning.
Layne Greenlee added an RBI single to left field in the fourth to conclude the scoring efforts for both teams.
Erin Carney, Jaegers, and Temple each had two hits for Wichita State and junior Katie Armagost pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief giving up one earned run and striking out four Hoosier batters.
In Saturday's second game the Shockers battled the ESPN/USA No. 8 Sooners to a scoreless tie through 3 ½ innings before the Oklahoma bats found life and edged the Shockers, 5-0.
Sophomore starter Sloan Anderson gave Oklahoma's star-studded lineup fits for much of the game allowing seven hits and four earned runs.
Sydney Stuever and Jaegers had the only hits for Wichita State off Oklahoma pitcher Michelle Gascoigne, who earned the victory against the Shockers for the second consecutive day.
