WICHITA, Kan.- The Wichita State men's tennis team took both
of their matches on Saturday at Genesis Health Club, defeating both Newman
University and Oral Roberts, 7-0.
In the first match against Newman, the Shockers would grab a
point early by defeating the Jets in all three of the doubles matches.
The dominance continued on into singles play. The Shocks won
in straight sets in every match. Junior
Matheus Pereira and Freshmen Kester Black did not allow their opponents to win
a set, winning both of their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
It was more of the same in the second match of the day for
the Shockers, playing against the Golden Eagles from Oral Roberts.
In doubles, No. 31 Matheus Periera and David Cavalcanti
defeated Alvaro Gutierrez and Oscar Witzand, 8-4. The win moved the ranked duo
to 5-2 on the season. The Shocker men would win the other two doubles matchups
to take the first point of the match.
It continued to go well for the Shockers, taking all six of
the singles matchups to win the whole match, 7-0.
The Shockers will continue play next weekend when they stay
home to take on Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, March 3 at noon. The match will
take place at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex.
