Wichita State Knocks Out Ranked Tigers

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State moved their record to 4-1 on the season when they defeated the No. 72 ranked Missouri Tigers, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Wichita Country Club.

The Shockers took the important doubles point by winning two out of their three matches. Lutfiana Budiharto and Carla Venticinque defeated Rachel Stuhlmann and Alex Clark, 8-2. Then Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova defeated Nina Pantic and Jamie Mera, 8-5, to capture the point for Wichita State.

Missouri then came out storming in the singles competition. Maria Christensen defeated Delia Damaschin, 6-1, 6-3, and Alex Clark defeated Carla Venticinque, 6-1, 7-6 in the first two matches. Then, Wichita State senior Lutfiana Budiharto, continued her undefeated dual match season by beating Missouri's Nina Pantic, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, to tie the score at two all. Wichita State and Missouri would then split the next two matches, leaving it up to the final match between Wichita State sophomore Satjaporn Mahajaroenkel and Missouri junior Annemijh Koenen.

As the crowd at the Wichita Country Club cheered, Mahajaroenkel defeated Koenen, 6-0, 7-5, to capture the match for the Shockers.

"It was a great match today," WSU Head Coach Colin Foster said. "To get a win against a great team like that is going to do good for our confidence, for our ranking, it just feels good to get a win like that."

The Shockers continue their season next weekend when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind. They take on Purdue on Friday, February 17th at 1 p.m. and Marshall on Saturday, February 18th at 11 a.m.
