Box Score AUSTIN, Texas - No. 4 USC defeated Wichita State, 3-0, in
the NCAA Regional Semifinals in Gregory Gym.
The Trojans won by scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-17.
Ashlyn Driskill led the Shockers with seven kills, while
Elizabeth Field had six kills. Chelsey
Feekin had 22 assists and Kelsey Banwart and Jackie Church each had eight digs.
USC grabbed an early 5-3 lead in the first set, but the
Shockers tied it at five on a solo block from Emily Adney. The Shocks went up 9-7 on a kill by Sam
Sanders, but a kill by Katie Fuller tied the score at nine. The teams traded points until USC used a
couple of kills from Fuller to go in front 15-12. The Trojans increased the lead to 18-13 on a
Shocker error, but a 3-0 Shocker run made the score 18-16. WSU used a kill and ace from Ashley Andrade
to tie the score at 19, but USC closed the set on a 6-1 run to take a 25-20
win.
The Trojans raced out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and
increased the lead to 10-4 on a kill from Alicia Ogoms. A kill byAshlyn Driskill cut the lead to
14-10, but a kill by Fuller gave USC a 20-13 lead. The Trojans went on to win the set 25-19.
Two kills from Katie Reilly gave WSU an early 3-2 lead in
the third set, but the Trojans came back to take a 6-5 lead on a service
ace. A kill by Sara Shaw increased the
lead to 9-6 and the Trojans started pulling away as an Ogoms kill made it
18-11. USC won the set 25-17.
The Shockers finish the season 24-10 after making their
first Sweet Sixteen appearance in school history.
