MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.- Sophomore Alvaro Gutierrez and freshman
Tin Ostojic were both dropped out of the qualifying round on the first day of
the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships at the Baseline Tennis Center on
Thursday.
Gutierrez, who had a bye in the first round, defeated Tim
Worley of Western Ilinois in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. He then had a match-up
against Erick Sock of Nebraska in the second round, where he fell, 6-3, 6-7(8),
1-0.
Ostojic, like Gutierrez, took his second round match when
he defeated Jacob Perkins of Southern Illinois- Edwardsville, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0. He
then fell in the third round to the five-seeded Nick Papac of Oklahoma, 6-2,
6-4.
The main draw in singles and doubles starts on Friday at the
Baseline Tennis Center. Results will be posted on GoShockers.com following
