WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita State Shockers defeated the Texas-San
Antonio Roadrunners, 5-2, on Friday afternoon at Genesis Health Club.
WSU is now 1-1 in duals this season. On Friday, the Roadrunners took the
early lead after they won the doubles points as they won both the No. 2 and No.
3 matches. The nationally ranked duo of David Cavalcanti and Matheus Pereira
won their match, 8-6. The Brazil natives are currently ranked No. 20 in
doubles.
In singles, the Shockers rebounded as they took five of the
six matches to claim the win. Pereira rebounded from some tough early season
losses to win his match over Yannick Junger, 6-2, 7-5. Cavalcanti took his
match over Martin Ayala, 6-2, 6-4.
Freshman Tomislav Gregurovic continues to play well this season as he
knocked off Tyler Brown, 6-0, 6-2.
Kester Black and Erick Reyes rounded out the wins for the Shockers as
they won in No. 6 and No.4, respectively.
"This was a good win for us today," WSU head coach Brad
Louderback said. "UTSA is a solid,
well coached team that will contend for their conference title this
season. We had a good team effort
and I'm proud of our team's fight."
The Shockers will host Air Force on Sunday morning at
Genesis Health Club on Rock Road. First serve is set for 10 a.m.
