Box Score LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville used 26 kills from Lola
Arslanbekova to take a 3-1 win over Wichita State in the Crowne Plaza Cardinal
Classic. UL won by scores of 25-20,
21-25, 25-17 and 25-16.
Camri Zwiesler led the Shockers with 11 kills, while Sam
Sanders added 10 kills. Mary Elizabeth
Hooper had a team-high 29 assists and Sarah Waldorf had 21 digs.
The first set went back-and-forth until a kill from Emily
Adney gave the Shocks an 11-7 lead. UL
came back to tie it at 16 and took a 17-16 lead with a kill. The teams traded points with the Shocks
taking a 20-19 on a block by Mary Elizabeth Hooper and Elizabeth Field, but the
Cardinals ended the set on a 6-0 run to win 25-20.
Neither team had more than a two-point lead in the second
set until an Adney block gave WSU an 18-15 lead. UL pulled to within 20-19 with a kill, but
the Shocks reeled off four-straight to take a 24-19 lead. WSU won the set 25-21 on a Cardinal service
error.
The Cardinals took a commanding 11-3 lead in the third set
and never looked back as UL won 25-17.
The Shockers stayed close in the fourth set until
back-to-back UL kills put the Cardinals in front 8-4. The Cardinals went on to win the set 25-16.
The Shockers are next in action on Sun., Sept. 4 against Ole
Miss at 11 a.m. (CST).
