Shockers Sweep Creighton With 14-1 Win

Omaha, Neb. - The Wichita State Shockers blasted the Creighton Bluejays, 14-1 on Sunday afternoon to sweep the three-game series in Omaha, Neb. 

The Shockers swept the Bluejays in Omaha for the first time since 2003. It is also the first sweep of a Missouri Valley Conference series for the Shocks this season.

Wichita State improves to 13-28 overall 6-8 in the Valley with the victory and the Bluejays drop to 18-21 on the season and 6-6 in conference action with the defeat.

The 14 runs scored is good for the third highest total for the Shockers this season. They scored 18 against Western Illinois back on March 23 and 15 runs on Feb. 20 against Texas Southern. The 14-1 victory over the Bluejays is the first run-rule of the year for Wichita State.

The Shockers connected for four home runs, including a grand slam and an inside-the-park home run in the run-rule victory. Junior Brittney Osborn hit her first home run of her career in a Shocker uniform. Heather Gerritse hit her fourth home run of the season and 14th of her career. Sammie Shook's inside-the-park home run brings her home run total up to six on the season and nine for her career. Jamie Hull continued to climb the career home run chart as she hit her second grand slam of the season. She now has five home runs on the year and 21 for her career.

Katie Armagost improved to 5-10 with the win for the Shockers, she scattered three hits and struck out one, tossing 60 pitches in the five-inning complete game.

The Shockers return to action with six games in five days starting on Tues., April 19. They take a break from conference action as they welcome Oklahoma State University for a single game at 7:00 p.m. The Shockers will then return to MVC action as they host Missouri State for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. on Wed., April 20. Wichita State will then wrap up the week with a three-game series against Evansville. The two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Friday and wrap up the three-game set on Saturday afternoon.
