Drake Shuts Out Shockers, 6-0

WICHITA, Kan.- Wichita State dropped the series to Drake with a 6-0 shutout loss to the Bulldogs in front of 231 fans at Wilkins Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Drake's starting pitcher, Jenna DeLong, threw a one-hitter as she and the Bulldogs held the Shockers' scoreless for the game. DeLong went 7.0 innings and recorded eight strikeouts. Sophomore Hayley Temple picked up the Shockers' lone hit of the game with a single back up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Brianna Smet fell to 3-11 on the season with the loss in the circle for the Shockers. She went 3.0 innings and gave up six runs on five hits. Smet recorded three strikeouts on the day. Sloan Anderson came out of the bullpen for Wichita State. She went 4.0 innings and held the Bulldogs scoreless on just one hit. She also recorded two strikeouts.

With the loss, Wichita State falls to 10-28 on the season and 3-8 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Drake improves to 23-13 on the year and 10-1 in MVC action.

Drake scored five runs on three hits to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Torey Craddock picked up four RBI in the inning with a grand slam to right-field. Molly McClelland kept the inning going for the Bulldogs with a two-out solo home run to put them ahead 5-0 after three innings of play.

DU made it a 6-0 game in the top of the fourth inning. Sam West reached on a fielder's choice and then stole second base. After stealing second, she was able to advance all the way home because of an error on the play.

Wichita State returns to action next weekend as they travel to Omaha, Neb. for a three-game series with Creighton. The Shockers and the Bluejays have a doubleheader set for 12:00 p.m. on Sat., April 16. The two teams will wrap up the three-game set on Sun., April 17 at 12:00 p.m.
