STILLWATER, Okla.- Wichita State fell, 10-1, to #20 Oklahoma State at Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. Wednesday night.
The Shockers fell to 6-15 on the season and the Cowgirls improved to 16-5 on the year. Oklahoma State is the third ranked opponent the Shockers have faced this season.
Senior Heather Gerritse led WSU at the plate as she went 2-for-2 and scored one run. Holly Eckert went 1-for-2 at the plate and picked up an RBI. Danika Miller and Rachel Milnark rounded out the rest of the hits for the Shockers as they both picked up one hit.
Katie Armagost got the start in the circle and fell to 4-5 on the season picking up the loss. She went 1.2 innings and gave up four runs off of three hits. Sloan Anderson went 1.1 innings giving up three runs off of three hits.
The Cowgirls reached the scoreboard early as they scored two runs off of one hit and one error in the bottom of the first inning. Kelsea Schultz walked and stole second before Alysia Hamilton hit a double to the gap in the left center. Hamilton came around and scored two batters later off of an error at second to make the score 2-0 after one inning of play.
OSU added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning. Ashley Boyd led off the inning with a double to right field and then scored off of a Mariah Gearhart single to center. Gearhart moved herself into scoring position by stealing both second and third base consecutively. She scored after three-straight batters were walked. The score was 4-0 in favor of the Cowgirls after two innings of play.
Oklahoma State made it a 7-0 score after three innings of play by scoring three runs off of three hits and one error.
The Shockers got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning scoring one run off of two hits. Heather Gerrtise led things off with a single up the middle. Holly Eckert then picked up an RBI scoring Gerritse with a double back up the middle. The Shockers were down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning.
OSU made it four consecutive innings of putting runs on the board as they scored three runs off of three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule as the Cowgirls beat the Shockers, 10-1.
The Shockers host their first softball action of the spring as they welcome Iowa State to Wilkins Stadium for a double-header on Saturday and a single game on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m. on Sat., March 12.
